Healing Emotional Hurts

Therapy for people suffering from psychological trauma took a giant leap forward when EMDR Therapy came onto the scene.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is proven effective in the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), as well as other stress-related problems.

Reading my specialty page on EMDR under the drop-down, “Services” will give a good idea about how EMDR can help you.

In this brief blog I’d like to share some more information about why EMDR might be a good choice for you.

A major obstacle facing people who suffer from painful memories is that they assume therapy will force them to think about and talk about experiences they would rather forget about. However, EMDR therapy is not talk therapy. In fact the amount of conversation that takes place during EMDR therapy is minimal, as compared with what happens in talk therapy.

Another advantage of EMDR therapy is that full resolution of painful memories can be accomplished efficiently. EMDR therapy has been widely studied, and the results of numerous studies prove that many victims of trauma can experience relief in a shorter time than clients who use traditional talk therapy alone.

Another good thing about EMDR is that most of my clients respond very positively to it right from the start. In talk therapy, what often happens is that the client names several problems, and has difficulty deciding what needs to be addressed. He or she feels overwhelmed. In EMDR therapy – while we may acknowledge that more than one problem may exist – we work on one problem at a time, so the process is less complicated and much more manageable.

I continue to be inspired by the results that my EMDR clients have achieved, and am beyond happy to have added this powerful life-changing method to my practice.
