Conflict # 49 – Double Your Treasure

In my endeavor to help people with problems, I use something which I call the “Two-Track” approach: Track 1 and Track 2.

The reason for this approach is simple. Everyone who comes for help says something like, “I don’t know how to … get over this depression, or … let go of bitterness against my parents … communicate with my wife … handle my boss … stop feeling guilty … deal with my ultra-sensitive child … etc. They tell me they need tools. Skills. Knowledge. This is Track 1: The Skill and Knowledge Track. All about communication and conflict resolution. Very important stuff.

But it’s not the whole story. Socrates, the great philosopher, is known for at least two brilliant teachings: “Know yourself.” And, “The unexamined life is not worth living.”

In addition to improving our communication and conflict resolution skills, we benefit greatly as we grow in self-awareness. That is, insight into our self-defeating habits and self-sabotaging thoughts and beliefs: negativity, cynicism, judging, poor self-control, anger and resentment, etc. This is Track 2: The Insight Track.

These two tracks work together. The more we learn to communicate and handle conflict, the more we understand our limitations. As we understand the price we pay for our limitations, we are motivated to improve our skills. A beautiful partnership.

If you’d like to know how this can work for you, please call at 219-309-3928. I’d be delighted to work with you.
